We specifically cover 1e PHBs from 1978, 1983, & 2012; 2e PHBs from 1989, 1995, & 2013; 3rd & 3.5 PHBs from 2000, 2003, & 2012; 4e PHB from 2008; and the newly released 5e PHB.

In this week's episode, Dan & Dave talk about the influence that J.R.R. Tolkien had on the game, to the chagrin of Gary back in the day. From maps & trilogies to the rich setting of Middle-Earth, we explore how the legacy of Tolkien influenced how we play D&D today, and whether or not the Tolkien influence is still as prevalent as it was early on.

With the upcoming release of the 5th Edition Monster Manual, we thought it would be interesting to look back on the previous incarnations of this book, and its companion books, such as the Fiend Folio and MM2 (1e), Monstrous Compendium Annuals (2e) Monster Manuals 2-5 (3e/3.5) and MMs 2 & 3 (4e). From artwork, layout, and stat-blocks to the conspicuous disappearance of the leprechaun in 3rd edition onwards, we have lots of fun talkinga all about our likes & dislikes of the books. And we prove we're not edition warriors.
